Unstaffed café — self-service when no one is behind the counter

A café or bakery doesn't have to close when staff go home. The customer signs in with BankID at the door, takes their coffee and pastry and pays on their phone — the same platform as an unmanned store, no vending machine and no lock-in.

Starting point

A café is a store with a different range

The morning coffee, the bread on the way home, the fika before the gym — much of what a café or bakery sells is already sitting ready on the shelf or in the fridge. What stops many from staying open longer isn't demand, it's that someone has to be behind the counter. To JOBBS, an unstaffed café is just an unmanned store with buns instead of basics.

The customer is let in with BankID, scans what they take with self-scanning on their phone and pays right away — and the checkout and accounting handle the rest. What we don't do is cooking and table service; we handle entry, sales and the paperwork.

Four things it solves

What the unstaffed café handles for you

Open before and after staff The baker goes home, but the bakery can stay open for the morning rush. The customer signs in with BankID, takes their bread and coffee and pays on their own — same premises, no staffing during those hours.
The coffee is scanned on the phone The customer scans the items with their own phone and pays by card or Swish. No till behind the counter, no card terminal to buy — and a compliant receipt is created.
The accounting is already done Sales are booked automatically and the SIE4 file is ready to import into Fortnox or Visma. No sitting with the till after closing.
Safe without staff Every visit is tied to an identified person via BankID, with camera as backup. The right person in, traceable if something happens — without making it awkward for someone who just wants a bun.

How JOBBS does it

No machine — your real premises, unstaffed

The same platform as an unmanned store. To JOBBS, a café or bakery is just a store with a different range. Access (BankID at the door), self-scanning, payment and accounting hang together in one system — you don't buy a separate café solution.

No machine, no lock-in. We don't make a vending machine and we don't lock your range inside a box. The customer walks into your real premises and shops freely from the shelf or fridge — the JOBBS Lockswitch controller only handles the door.

Staffed when it pays off. Most run hybrid: staff during the rush, unmanned early mornings and late evenings. The store switches mode on a schedule, with its own rules per mode — the same range throughout.

Want staff on site some hours and unstaffed the rest? That's how most run it — read about the setup in our guide to the hybrid store.

FAQ

Unstaffed café & bakery — frequently asked questions

Can you run a café or bakery unstaffed?

Yes — for self-service of what's already prepared: bread, pastries, coffee, drinks and packaged goods. The customer signs in with BankID at the door, takes their items, scans them on their phone and pays. Many run hybrid: staffed during the rush and unstaffed in the mornings and evenings. What JOBBS doesn't do is cooking or table service — we handle entry, self-scanning, payment and accounting.

Do I need a vending machine or a locked cabinet?

No. JOBBS is not a vending machine — the customer walks into your normal premises and shops freely from the shelf or fridge. The controller only governs the door lock. A coffee machine or fridge can stand as usual; the customer pays for what they take via self-scanning.

How does the customer pay in an unstaffed café?

The customer scans the items with their own phone and pays right there with card or Swish. A compliant receipt is created and sales are booked automatically with an SIE4 file for Fortnox or Visma.

What about age-restricted items, like energy drinks?

Goods with an age limit require age control. The system can read the customer's real age from the personal number via BankID and block per product, but you as the seller are responsible for following the rules for your range. Such items are often kept within the staffed hours. Food handling and hygiene rules are always your responsibility as a business — check with your municipality.

Does it suit a small café in an association or workplace?

Yes, that's a common self-service setting — a staff café, an association kitchen or a kiosk in a waiting room. The customer signs in with BankID and pays on their own, so the space can stay open without anyone having to be there.

What does an unstaffed café solution cost?

The JOBBS Lockswitch controller costs SEK 3,995 once, and if the door lacks an electric lock an installation through our partners is added. For the platform we prepare a quote based on your business — get in touch.
