Electronic shelf labels that match the checkout
In an unmanned store there is no one to resolve a wrong shelf price. With electronic shelf labels (ESL) the price on the shelf and the price at the checkout come from the same source and change together. JOBBS ties the labels together with self-scanning, payment and accounting in one platform.
The problem
Why the shelf price is critical when no one is in the store
In a staffed store a wrong shelf price is a small thing — the customer flags it and staff fix it. In an unmanned store there is no such person. If the shelf edge says one price and the checkout charges another, the customer is left alone with the discrepancy, and trust in shopping on one's own takes a knock.
Electronic shelf labels solve it at the root: the labels are driven by the same price list as the self-scanning and the checkout. Change a price and the shelf and checkout change together — there are never two truths to keep in sync by hand.
Four reasons
What electronic shelf labels solve
How JOBBS does it
Shelf labels, checkout and accounting — one price list
One price list, not three. You manage range, prices and campaigns in one place. The same price list drives the shelf edge, the self-scanning and the receipt — not one system for the labels and another for the checkout that must be kept in sync by hand.
Built for unmanned mode. When the store switches to unmanned mode there is no one to fix a mislabelled item. Shelf price and checkout price coming from the same source isn't a convenience — it's a precondition for customers to trust shopping on their own.
An integration, not another box. JOBBS doesn't make the shelf labels — we integrate with Pricer's electronic shelf labels (ESL). You get one supplier for the whole flow instead of stitching together checkout, labels and accounting separately.
Which systems JOBBS connects to — payment, accounting, locks and shelf labels — is in our overview of integrations.
FAQ
Electronic shelf labels — frequently asked questions
What are electronic shelf labels (ESL)?
Electronic shelf labels — also called digital price tags or ESL — are small e-paper screens on the shelf edge showing price and product information. Instead of swapping paper labels by hand, they update wirelessly from a central price list.
Does JOBBS make the shelf labels?
No. JOBBS is the platform that ties the store together — access, self-scanning, payment and accounting. For the electronic shelf labels we integrate with Pricer, an established ESL supplier. So you get one joined-up solution instead of loose parts.
Does the shelf price match what the customer pays at checkout?
Yes, that's the whole point. When the labels are driven by the same price list as the self-scanning and the checkout, the shelf shows and the customer pays the same price. That matters most in an unmanned store where no staff can resolve a discrepancy on the spot.
Can I change prices and run campaigns centrally?
Yes. A price change or campaign is entered once and takes effect on the shelf edges and at the checkout — without anyone walking the store swapping labels.
Do I need electronic shelf labels for an unmanned store?
It's not a requirement — many unmanned stores run with ordinary labels. But electronic shelf labels remove the risk of shelf price and checkout price drifting apart, which is harder to handle when no staff are present. It's reassurance for both you and the customer.
What do electronic shelf labels cost?
The ESL hardware itself comes from Pricer and is priced accordingly; the JOBBS integration is part of the platform. Get in touch and we'll go through what fits your store and prepare a quote.
